The Simple White Shirt...

Apologies, apologies, apologies for not updating my blog last week lovely people - unfortunately, some swine out there gave me their contaminated germs which resulted in me having a stinker of a cold and taking to my boudoir for a few days, ghastly I know!!

Anyway, I'm here again, alive and well and ready give you my latest look for you gals about town!!!

As you'll see from the title above, this week is all about the simple white shirt, and how it can change a look completely....

To start with, here is a picture of one of my favourite dresses...

On first impact it's easy to pigeonhole this beautiful black & white polka dot dress from La Frock (www.lafrock.com) as something for the evening, thrown together with a pair of black heels, a cute clutch and slick of red lipstick and you're away for a night on the tiles...

However, add a crisp white shirt and a pair or black wedges and it's a different look altogether...

The shirt is from H & M (www.hm.com) and because of the short capped sleeves with the turn up detail I think it gives a vintage feel, aswell as being tied at the front, which never fails to give a rockabilly vibe...

The black wedges are from Marks & Spencer (www.marksandspencer.com) and are incredibly comfortable because of the slight platform, I like that they add polish to the outfit by adding height yet they're still very wearable, I've literally walked miles in them, making this outfit not only acceptable for a laid back evening out, but also for the daytime...

Accessories-wise, I would go for a simple hoop pair of earrings but leave the neck bare, adding a chunky bracelet on the wrist.

Now for 'arm candy', I would more or less say anything goes - apart from metallics, obviously a black bag, small or large, depending whether you're wearing the outfit for the daytime or evening, would be fine but I personally would add a brightly coloured bag so as to give a 'pop'.

I hope this week's post has shown you that although you may have a gorgeous dress in your wardrobe that you always wear with the same shoes and handbag, sometimes it's worth looking at it with fresh eyes and seeing if by adding something extra to it, it can transform it into a different outfit altogether, giving it more than one dimension.

It's Wedding Season!!

Hello lovely ladies of Blogsville!! Have you missed me or have you been too busy marvelling at how stunningly beautiful Kate Middleton, or as we are now to call her, the Duchess of Cambridge, looked on her wedding day?! To any of my Facebook friends out there, did you enjoy my commentary throughout the whole event? I laughed, I cried, then cried a little bit more, then cried a little bit more - I'm definitely a crier at weddings!

So, all this talk of wedding's begs the question of what to wear for such an occasion, and this week I've opted for something I think would be suitable on all levels, smart, sophisticated but still showing that Von Frock sparkle...

Gorgeous isn't it? This halterneck polka dot dress is from Vivien of Holloway (http://www.vivienofholloway.com/). I've added the elasticated white belt to it to accentuate the waist area, which I think is always a good look. So, a cute dress with a nice belt, where are the obligatory shoes and handbag I hear you cry? Here you go...

Now I know some people are a little confused when it comes to wearing white at a wedding, but rest assured, white accessories are fine, I think it's turning up in a full on white gown that may annoy the bride! You're probably aware now that I love a platform peeptoe, for me a platform heel not only looks great, it's easy on the feet too, giving the impression of a super high heel but the platform making it a little easier on the soles. These shoes are from River Island (http://www.riverisland.com/). The straw clutch is from ASOS (http://www.asos.com/) and I love it. Straw accessories give such a feeling of vintage and summertime and I like this one because of it's size. It's quite large for a clutch, but that's because it originally had a gold and leather Chanel style strap, so was an over the shoulder bag, I took the strap off though to give it a less casual look.



All in all, I think this is a great outfit for a wedding, however you don't just have to stop at adding shoes and a handbag, as is the case with many weddings it's nice to wear something on the head, for this dress, to keep in with the look of the era, I would add a couple of white hair flowers to one side of the head or perhaps a white fascinator, but stay away from anything with a net veil on the front, as we'll be right back to that annoying of the bride again!

However, if you're not really into hair accessories or hats how about pepping up the dress with a corsage to give the outfit a little something extra...

The flower I've added here was from Accessorize (http://www.accessorize.com/) a few years ago and is actually for the hair, but clips just as easily onto a dress. These kind of hair flowers can be bought from lots of places, so it's just a matter of keeping an eye out for them.  Here's another option of how to wear it...

I think this outfit is worthy of an invite to any Royal wedding, maybe Harry & Chelsy next?! Whilst not all of us may have the big buck's to spend like royalty, or Victoria Beckham, on an outfit, looking great can still be achieved on a modest budget and we can still feel like a million dollars!
